'Life is half luck and half fate' is a quote from James Bond in which I quite agree on. For the most of part, there are factors beyond our control, such as the Queensland Flood or other people crashing into your car. However, we still do make some decisions as to how we want our life to be, and with some luck and hard work, this should eventuate.
In the plans and decisions we make, we can assume the worst that fate will bring, and just hope for good luck. For example, going on a trip somewhere, just make sure travel insurances, back-up finance and contacts are in place, then just play hard and enjoy the trip.
In 2011, my goal is to progress my career into a job that will better utilise my knowledge and skills, provide better job satisfaction and career path. I will spend more quality time with my family and friends, and support my parents in their journey of transition to retirement. In decisions I make, I will be more financially responsible with considerations of benefits, costs and risks. Lastly, I will try to keep my room, my house and my car tidy at all times (The most difficult to achieve).
Health
Goal for this year is to lose my fat belly and gain a bit of strength.
- Workout 3 x a week at a minimum (2 x cardio + 1 x strength)
On the other hand, I was having a bit of a gassy stomach by the end of last year.
Got better over the holidays while in HK, maybe a change in food and lifestyle helped.
Career
Having graduated from my Masters degree and worked 3 yrs in public sector IT planning, its about time for a change.
While finishing my final semester, I attended a management consultant firm's seminar at the end of last year and is very impressed by the type of work they do and contribute to the bottom line of their clients. So I think my next step would be going into the consulting industry, and utilise my experience and knowledge to help clients to further their goals.
My ultimate career is to complete a PhD and educate the next generations, as well as contribute to the advancement of our knowledge, solve the unknown, and make this world even better.
Friends
I have been a bit slack in this area for the last year, mainly due to the hectic full time study and full time work schedules.
Its about time to relax a bit and have fun with friends. Always remember that quality is over quantity.
Family
As time flies past, parents get older and new members join the family. In the late part of last year, I took an extended leave from work to spend time with my family in HK. It has been a very satisfying moment to see my little nephew start to say his own name correctly, to interact with his parents, uncles and aunties, to play puzzles and assemble train tracks. It reminds me the different KPIs in different stages of life.
On the hand, Dad is considering retirement, and I rented out a book called 'Retirement for Workaholics' to advise him the best way to retire. In the coming year, it is my goal to spend more time with them, as family is the closest thing that we treasure.

Style
My Audi A3 TDI has served me very well throughout the last 3 years, its still a dream to drive.
Its lease will come to an end in October this year, I will be keeping it for a little while longer, while the automotive industry decides how electrified it wants to be.
During my X'mas stay in HK, Defoe gave me a taste of what a BMW Z3 will bring. And WOW! Its really thrills and pleasure.
However, a few goals for my next vehicle should be comfort, driver satisfaction, efficiency, practicality and safety (eg. City Safety, Drowsiness monitoring). To experience the thrills and fun, renting a Mini cabrio S would be a sensible choice.
My Macbook Pro will be due for a replacement this year, it is its fourth year with me, and it has served me well.
Financials
Still have to set a long term goal for my financials. With my intended change from public to private sector will see a drop in salary at around $10k. But it is still my intention to get a property within 3 years time (investment or self-accommodating).
This year will see a better management of my expenses and investment, as they have been a bit slack in the past years resulting a bit lower than expectations in savings.
Dreams
Skiing in New Zealand and a Eurotrip as promised with Defoe's graduation is still on the list.
Depending on financials and annual leave, hope to get either done this year.
